In the class 1 (gold) rooms, operators must wear spacesuit-like garments to contain any dust created by their bodies, clothing or cosmetics. Further, after donning these suits they must pass through "air showers" to remove any dust that may have fallen on them in the suit-up area.
Because this is a cumbersome process, all of the class 1 rooms are connected via a clean corridor along the center line of the building. The operators can thus stay entirely inside ultra-clean space as they move the chips through their process steps.
